A 19th century classic travel journal written in 1878 by Scottish
author Robert Louis Stevenson, who later wrote Treasure Island and
Kidnapped. Stevenson recounts his 120-mile journey on foot in the
Cévennes Mountains in France accompanied by his small grey donkey Modestine,
“the colour of a mouse with a kindly eye.” Modestine would become one of the
